Music Monday

One of my favorite Beatle songs. What an amazing melody line written by John & Paul. Their songs are great in any generation!

Disneyworld with my sister

My sister had to attend a conference in Orlando while I was in Nashville about a month ago. She joked before we left that we should meet up and spend a day at Disneyworld. I laughed and dismissed her random comment.

I called her on the last day of her conference to see how it had gone. I could barely hear her over a man talking in the background.

"Are you still in the conference?" I asked.

"No...I'm at Disneyworld."

WHAT?!? She went by herself to spend the day at Disney and ride the rides...by herself.

"I told you to come with me." she said

I truly thought she was kidding but technically, I could have flown from Nashville to Orlando where she could have picked me up in her paid-for car, and stayed with her in her paid-for hotel room. (Can you tell I'm dwelling on what could-have-been?)

Instead, I spent about an hour on the phone with her while she rode rides (and I listened to her scream), ate at the concession stands, and shopped in the Disney shops.

We even posed for pictures together. Yes, she handed the camera to strangers and asked, "Will you take a picture of me and my sister?" They must have thought she was nuts!
Here we are...

This experience has taught me a couple of things:
1) Robin doesn't kid around about going to Disneyworld.
2) I don't think that I would enjoy an experience like Disneyworld alone. Having no one to ride rides with or take pictures with or turn to and say, "Isn't this fun?". She said that she always got to go to the front of the lines as a single rider and got to ride the rides that she missed out on when she went with her kids.

What about you? Given the opportunity, would you go to Disneyworld by yourself?

Happy Birthday, Ginny

I've been wanting to share these since we did them but had to wait as a matter of secrecy. This past summer, my brother-in-law emailed the family to say that he was putting together a surprise "Happy Birthday" video for Ginny (Casey's sister). He wanted videos of people wishing her 'happy birthday' without the standard- looking in the camera and saying it. These are the ones our family created (with the help of my other very talented brother-in-law's video skills). They were fun to make and are still funny for us to watch!

This is the kid's contribution. I explained to them that we were going to pretend that they were getting in trouble and that they needed to act like they were upset.
They giggled the whole way through :o)

Here's mine...

And here's our favorite one...

Music Monday

Casey and I have watched these a handful of times and while the artist isn't a classic, the songs definitely are...

...for anyone whoever had to blow on the cartridge to try to get it to work (you know what I'm talking about, right?)

Who knew the flute had such rad possibilities!!!
...and for anyone whoever used the phrase "GO, GO, Gadget_______" when wishing you had his super abilities!

Goodbye, Penny Lane

After months of struggling with having a big dog, she finally left us on Tuesday. Casey and I got her when she was 6 weeks old in Nashville. I was in the height of my Beatle mania so we named her after one of my favorite songs. She was always like a 12-year-old girl to me....hadn't quite grown into her long legs and arms and very hyper....but sweet. She was my most difficult child and I'm sad to see her go but know that she's going to love going to live on lots of land and run and hunt with other dogs.

Music Monday

When I arrived at Belmont as a freshman, I had a very small library of musical favorites with me, mostly consisting of 80's and 90's music. It was during my time there that I learned to love so many styles and genres of music. From jazz to the Beatles, there is very little music that I don't at least appreciate for it's musical roots.

This lady is probably my all time favorite, though. After listening to and studying her natural ability to use her voice like a musical instrument and to do it completely effortlessly, I couldn't get enough of her. I sing her stuff to my kids and they will request "Ella music" in the car.

There is something about this time of year, when it's beginning to get cool outside, that I love to light a pumpkin spice candle, drink some coffee and listen to her music. You can't help but feel cozy and relaxed.

Hayride trick-or-treating really is the best way to save your feet!

These poor houses didn't know what to think when our
crew got there. Lots of candy! We probably wiped a few
of them out in one visit. My "Super" man and me(ow)

Wonder Woman gave it a couple of whacks before
lassoing it with her rope and bringing it to it's ultimate demise!
