This was fun...do yours!

Lost

Is anyone else SO excited about the return of Lost tonight?
I suppose that it doesn't take much to make this very pregnant lady happy these days. Please know that I realize how pathetic this next statement is, but when I found out that I was pregnant and figured out that my due date was in February, one of my first thoughts was, "You mean I have to wait for this baby as long as I have to wait for 'Lost' to come back?" Hearing the promos on TV has reminded me that I'm almost to the end of my waiting (for both events).

My DVR has been quite lonely with the writer's strike still going on so it will be nice to finally have some new episodes to get excited about.

What do you think? Are they going to be rescued? Really rescued?

Baby Blessing

I feel so blessed to be a part of a church small group that really rallies around each other in the good times and bad. I also love getting to go through life phases with these other couples. I am pregnant with my friend, Lacey who (I'm jealous to say) is due 2 weeks before me. It has been so wonderful to share this time with her and the other night, our small group had a "Baby Blessing" for the both of us.

We do this whenever a baby is just weeks from making it's appearance (which is quite often in our fertile little group). We gather, we eat, and we pray for everything from the delivery to our little one's salvation and future mate. It is so special and I'm so grateful to have my sweet little angel prayed over.

On a side note...ever heard that John Mellencamp song called, "Pink Houses"....yeah...that's me in these pictures :o) !!!

Wal Mart

Don't you just love Wal Mart? It's anything you need all under one roof. You can get dog food, fabric for a sewing project, diapers and salsa all on the same trip to one store.

I know that I've probably had some random concoctions in my basket upon check-out but last night, I got so tickled at Casey's observation of a man at the check-out counter in front of us that I had to share...

The gentleman was buying a cordless phone and 3 cans of Frito Lay bean dip.

Did he actually leave his house for those specific items? or was he instructed by his wife to go to Wal Mart and get a new cordless phone and got a hankering for some bean dip...or was he picking up supplies for a gathering and saw a good deal on a new cordless phone? Any way you slice it...it was very amusing!

What's the strangest combination of items you've picked-up or witnessed someone else buying?

100 and 60

I know, I know... I have been a slacker with my posting for the past week. Sorry. There's been a lot going on at my house. In addition to that, I saw on my last post that my next one would be my 100th post and I put a lot of pressure on myself to make it good one. I hope that you have enjoyed my last 99 posts and I promise that I will try and not fill the next 100 posts up completely with pictures of my new baby! I know that can get old so I'll try and keep it a good mix of insight, my two cents... as well as blatant baby bragging!

I can think of nothing more important to tell you about on my 100th post than to share with you that I spent the weekend with my family celebrating my precious mom's 60 years on this earth. She is such a treasure to me and it was so special to get to spend the weekend honoring and pampering her. As far as my mom knew, I was going to visit my sister, Robin, in Lubbock for the long MLK weekend. Instead, we surprised her and showed up at her door on Saturday morning and kidnapped her. She was SO surprised! We had a fantastic girls day at the spa, the movies and then a surprise party later that night with some of her 7 brothers and friends.

It's always so much fun to have my sister and her family in town. The kids each pal around with each other and we play games and eat...a lot. My brother-in-law, Matt got a Wii for Christmas and of course, we all got really into it. Even the kids and Grandpa had fun beating each other at boxing and tennis. I don't know if it's good or bad to wake up and have sore muscles from playing a video game but we all do. The weather was chilly but we went for an adventure to see the eagles' nest behind my parents' house and slid down the hill in their backyard on a piece of cardboard. So much fun!

Her real birthday isn't until next week so I won't deny her a couple more days in her 50s but
Happy Birthday, Mom...I love you.

Luke Watson has arrived

I have been unfaithful to my blog today so that I could keep my friend, Lindsay's blog as up-to-date as possible.

Her baby, Luke, who I've been asking for prayer for, was born today at 2:43 pm and is doing great. They are monitoring his heart and just making sure that the issue they were anticipating could present itself...doesn't.

Go over to her blog to check out the pictures of her precious third baby boy! Thank you for praying for my dear friend and please continue to do so as they monitor Luke through their hospital stay.

Taking Care of Jesus

Rory was helping his Mimi take down her nativity set and got very attached to the little baby Jesus figurine. He carried it around all over their house as if it was a fragile egg. Then, he sat down on the couch with it, cradle it in his arms and rocked it gently.

What a picture, of a boy taking care of Baby Jesus. I hope he always shows such a reverence for our Savior!

Fuse Beads

I'd like to thank my sister for always introducing me to fun and crafty ways of entertaining my children.

Have you heard of Fuse Beads? They are fantastic! Robin gave Maggie some for Christmas and she wants to do a "project" everyday. She sits at the table and spends...literally HOURS making different designs and then I iron them for her and she's on to the next one.

The Good:
  • They are doing something creative!
  • Not in front of the tv
  • My Pre-K mom (who spends her days educating 4 and 5 year olds) says that the dexterity it takes to handle the intricate beads, placing them in the "right" spot, concentrating, pattern-making and color sorting are fantastic for development
  • Maggie picks a person who she's making each project for and is going to start mailing them out soon...correspondence is not a lost art, right?
The Bad:
  • Rory got a hold of the beads and sprinkled our kitchen with them. What a mess!!!

Oh...to be 5 again!

Today I received a very special invitation to be a part of an elite audience to observe a once in a lifetime performance by an extremely prominent ballerina.

Among the VIP guest list was: Snow White, Jasmine, Prince Phillip, Island Princess Barbie, Ariel and Belle. Rory got an invitation too but didn't quite understand why he was there nor did he understand what it meant to be silent in the presence of such greatness!

Enjoy...

The tale of a boy and his blanket

It all started when Rory was born and I bought him this incredibly soft blue Amy Coe blanket from Target. It made for a cozy ride home from the hospital. It was a cute backdrop for newborn pictures and was stretchy so it made swaddling him easier than with his other blankets.
He got attached to it...what can I say? The more he "loved" it, the more I had to wash it and the softer it got. He got so dependent on it to go to sleep that I decided to go and get another one just in case we should ever loose it or need one for the car or Grandma's house, etc. NO GO! He wanted nothing to do with the identical blanket. He only wanted his blue blanket which had now affectionately become known as his "boo boo".

You remember Linus from the Peanuts cartoons? That's Rory. It's with him wherever he goes. He can sleep anywhere as long as he has his boo boo to snuggle up with. It calms him down when he's upset, it comforts him when he's sick, and it makes for a fantastic superhero cape when the need arises. It's getting more and more holes in it but that only seems to make for more inventive ways to carry it around or peek through it when he's hiding under it! In hind-sight, I should have got him a 1 foot square lovey as opposed to having to keep up with this 4 foot square blanket.

Should I leave well enough alone and cherish this phase knowing full well that he won't be cuddling up with it in his college dorm room? Or should I start planning a separation from boo boo i.e. "It's lost" or "You're a big boy now" talk? Someone suggested cutting it down but I'm afraid that might just be more traumatic than a complete removal. Let me know if you've had to deal with this situation.

Then & Now Challenge

A few weeks ago, one of my old college friends, Nathan, posted a challenge on his blog. It made me laugh so I wanted to participate and send the challenge out to you as well.

How much have you changed since high school? A few of us have had our 10 year reunions and had the opportunity to mentally be back in our senior year and some of you haven't quite made it there yet. Either way...this is your chance to dig out those Senior pictures. This should require scanning. No one who has their picture in digital form is allowed to participate...that would mean that you haven't had the time to change yet!!! :o)

So, bloggers...let's see them!

Here I am in 1997 (pre- jaw surgery!) and now...baby #3 on the way!
